Margalla Road Islamabad is a long-standing project of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to reduce the traffic congestion at the GT Road while connecting it to KPK and other parts of the country.

More than a decade has passed since the first plan for Margalla Expressway in 2006. The fate of this 35-Kilometer road is still up in the air.
However, PM Imran Khan initiated the project again in April 2021, anticipating completing it within one year.
Setbacks In The Construction Of Margalla Avenue
Margalla road project was proposed to provide an alternative to Kashmir Highway, connecting it to the New Islamabad International Airport.
However, the authorities could not start work on the project due to the uncertain political situations in 2006. During the reign of Yousuf Raza Gillani, the project received final approval, and the contractors started working on the construction of this road in 2012.
However, CDA had to face challenges in the acquisition of land for Margalla Avenue. Despite these challenges, the work on the construction was in progress at a slower pace.
As a result, the project was renewed with some amendments to the initial plan until then. Until then, half of the work was complete, and contractors and CDA had resolved issues,
Prerequisites For Constructing Margalla Avenue
Margalla Avenue is a much-awaited CDA road construction project as it provides convenience for the people of Murree, Kashmir, and KPK at the same time. Margalla Expressway road will begin from the foothills of Margalla Hills and will connect central Islamabad with the GT Road.
On the other hand, the new proposed plan by the CDA is expected to complete in two phases. The first construction phase will begin from Sangjani at GT Road to the D12 sector in Islamabad.
Next, the work on 10 KM road will begin from Constitution Avenue to Satra Meel. The road will connect with Murree Road and Bhara Kahu Bypass.
Besides, the CDA has planned to build an overhead bridge at the railway track will help in several ways.
Despite all the challenges involved in the construction of the road, there’s no denying that this project will resolve traffic issues on the main GT Road. On the other hand, the real estate sector will boost as new housing societies develop along with Margalla Road Islamabad.
It reported from the local investors that they’ve started selling their land in the hope that the road construction will bring them huge returns in the upcoming years. The land prices have also increased remarkably in recent years due to the road plans.
Moreover, the road-building from D-17 to B-17 will reduce the risk of accidents due to traffic issues.
Moreover, it will connect Rawalpindi and Islamabad with other cities reducing traffic hassles and increasing their speed limit. Alongside the construction of the Rawalpindi Ring Road project, Margalla road is expected to bring a multitude of opportunities for investors, businessmen, and residents in many ways.
